All teachers new to the county are
supported by the New Teacher Program which has been heralded
as one of the best programs of its type in the State:
*New Teacher Orientation -Teachers
new to the county report four days before the regular staff
begins to become acquainted with their school, the school
system and the community. This enables new teachers to become
acquainted with their surroundings in a smooth, systematic
and non-stressful way. In addition, new teachers also spend
time with their mentors.
*Mentor Teacher Program -Each
teacher new to the system is assigned a mentor, or buddy
teacher, to assist with becoming acclimated to his/her surroundings.
This mentoring relationship lasts throughout the first year.
*New Teacher Seminars -A series
of seminars are provided for new teachers. Seminars are designed
to answer questions and address issues important to those
new to the school system and new to teaching.
*New Teacher Newsletter -Each
month a new teacher newsletter is published and distributed
with the intent of enhancing communication and providing
information that covers both school system information as
well as instructional issues.
*The
New Teacher Handbook- Every new teacher receives
a copy of The New Teacher Handbook which contains a lot
of information about the county and school system. As
part of this publication new teachers also receive local
and State information (maps, guides and other booklets)
intended to assist everyone in getting better acquainted
this area.
